Diving for the Brits
While you're on holiday in Orlando, why not become a
PADI Open Water Diver. Your local Hammerhead Dive Center will
come to you and teach you in your villa.
This course is designed to provide you with the skills and
knowledge you need to safely gain experience in an open water
environment and ultimately, to scuba dive independently.
The course consists of:
- 5 Academic sessions which are based on the PADI Open
Water Diver book and video.
- 4 pool dives where you'll be trained in basic dive
techniques (at your villa).
- 3 dives in Fresh Water environment (a local lake near
Cypress Gardens).
- 2 dives in Salt Water environment (Pompano Beach 3
hours away).
You must be 10-years-old or older, and in good health.
All you need is a mask, snorkel, and fins, which is readily
available from our Dive Shop. All gear that you buy during the
course is 10% off, from the Hammerhead Dive Center.
The cost of the course is rated per student:
1 to 3 - $395 per person
4 to 5 - $350 per person
6 + - $295 per person
Cost of travel to open water dive sites is not included.
Hammerhead Dive Center offers regular monthly or bi-monthly dive
trips to the Pompano Beach/Ft. Lauderdale area where we dive the
reefs and wrecks of the southeastern coast of Florida.
Hammerhead Dive Center also offers at least two trips per year
to dive the beautiful Florida Keys.
Additionally, Hammerhead Dive Center generally sponsors two
out-of-country dive trips each year to destinations in the
Caribbean area.

Getting Started
The PADI entry level course is designed
to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to
safely gain experience in the diving environment and ultimately
to SCUBA dive independently. The course is performance-based and
designed to take students through simple to complex learning
objectives.
The course consists of academic sessions which are based upon
the PADI SCUBA Diver Manual and Video. The sessions are
self-directed sessions in which the student will read the SCUBA
Diver Manual and view the SCUBA Diver video in the comfort of
his/her home and then attend a Chapter review classroom session.
There are a number of water skill development sessions and/or
pool dive sessions. There are five Open Water training dives;
three of which will be conducted at Lake Denton in Avon Park,
Florida and two in the ocean environment near Pompano Beach,
Florida
Course Requirements
Be in good health and have none of the
pre-existing conditions contained in the medical history portion
of the student record file; or, if the student has any of the
conditions listed in the medical history of the student record
file, the student has the written approval to participate in the
diving course by a physician licensed to practice medicine in
the State of Florida. Be 10 years of age or older. Students
under the age of 18 must have the written permission of a parent
or guardian to participate in the SCUBA Diver course; as well as
their parent's or guardian's signature upon the Liability
Release and Express Assumption of Risk form used by Hammerhead
Dive Center. Be able to swim 15 strokes using any technique with
a reasonable period of time. Be able to tread water continuously
for 10 minutes.
Cost
The cost of the SCUBA Diver course
starts at $295.00. Deposit of $50.00 is required when signing up
for the class.. Balance due 4 weeks before class. This fee
includes:
- All instruction and all
instructional materials (Diver Manual, Diver Video and Audio
Tapes, Dive Tables, Log Book, and handouts). All pool dives
(minimum of three). Five open water training dives, and the
cost of certification.
Hammerhead Dive Center, Inc. will
provide the following equipment as part of the course
certification fee:
- Regulator with Octopus
- Low pressure inflator hose
- Submerisible pressure gauge
- Depth gauge
- SCUBA tank
- Buoyancy Compensating Device
- Weights and weight belt
All Open Water Diver students are
expected to provide the following personal gear at all water
skill development sessions (pool and open water sessions) during
this course. The personal gear shall consist of at least the
following items:
- Mask (suitable for SCUBA
diving) (a must)
- Snorkel (a must)
- Fins (with booties if
necessary) (a must)
- Please do not buy the items
above from walmart
- Gloves (if desired)
- Wetsuit (if desired)
- Two mouthpieces for regulator second
stages
- Dive timing device
Hammerhead Dive Center offers a 10
percent discount on all equipment purchases while enrolled in
their SCUBA diver course.
